Parent Notification Letter
Hello!
My name is Stephanie Thomas, and I am the Title Reading Teacher at Sherwood Elementary. My role at Sherwood is to work with students in small groups in order to provide extra reading support and practice for those who are working toward reaching grade level learning targets. I am certified to teach Special Reading K-12, Early Childhood Education B-3, and Elementary Education 1-6.
The Title IA Program is available to help ensure the success of your child. Students are selected for this program through classroom teacher recommendation and review of students' benchmark screening data and other ELA assessments. In this program, your child will work to strengthen his or her reading and language skills. Grades will not be given in this class.
Your child will receive extra instruction and practice in reading in addition to the reading instruction received in the classroom. This instruction will most often take place in my classroom in a small group setting. Your child will be assessed often to determine reading progress. I will also work closely with your child’s classroom teacher to support their reading development and to monitor their progress and instructional needs. We will work together to keep you updated on your child’s progress in reading.
Additionally, we encourage students to practice reading at home at least four nights per week. Reading research has shown that practicing reading outside of school is one of the most effective ways that parents can help their child with improving reading skills.
I am very excited about the opportunity I have to work with your child and to help him or her develop as a reader! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at 660-499-2202, ext. 157.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Thomas Phil Rogers
Title IA Reading Teacher Elementary Principal
