The Five Finger Rule for Choosing a "Just Right Book"
Have your child follow these steps to determine whether a book is "just right" for him or her:
(0-1) Fingers = Too Easy
(2-3) Fingers = Just Right
(4-5) Fingers = Too Hard
- Choose a book that you think you will enjoy
- Read the second page
- Hold up a finger for each word you are not sure of, or do not know

(2-3) Fingers = Just Right
(4-5) Fingers = Too Hard
