About Mrs. Thomas
My name is Stephanie Thomas and I am the Title I Reading Teacher at Sherwood Elementary. This will be my 4th year of teaching at Sherwood. I am excited to be teaching at my home school and to work in the community in which I live. A fun fact about me is that I have never lived anywhere except Creighton. Another fun fact is that I am a former Sherwood graduate. I attended Sherwood from my Kindergarten year on.
I love being a Reading Teacher because reading and writing are my FAVORITE subjects! Another thing I love about being a reading teacher is that I have the wonderful opportunity to work with students of varying age levels.
Prior to teaching at Sherwood, I worked for the Raymore-Peculiar School District for a total of 17 years. I was an Administrative Assistant for 4 years and then I spent the next 13 years teaching at Peculiar Elementary. I taught 3rd grade and then grades 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th during summer school. For most of my teaching career, I was a Reading Interventionist and worked with Kindergarten through 5th grade. In this position, I provided reading instruction to students based on their individual needs and learning styles. I was also an instructional resource for classroom teachers to help improve literacy instruction and to identify effective teaching strategies.
My education includes an Associate in Arts degree from Longview Community College, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Graceland University, and a Master of Arts degree from Baker University. I have also completed additional coursework to obtain a specialized reading certification at the University of Central Missouri. I am certified to teach Special Reading (K-12), Early Childhood Education (B-3), and Elementary Education (1-6).
I have been married to my husband (and high school sweetheart), Jason, for 20 years. We have two sons, Evan and Ethan, who are in 4th and 7th grade at Sherwood. Some of my favorite hobbies include: spending time with my family, reading, puzzles, playing Words with Friends, playing board games, fishing, swimming, scrap-booking, photography, listening to music, and playing softball and volleyball. I also enjoy watching my boys play all sports in my spare time.
Thank you for visiting my website. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year and looking forward to working with your child! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Mrs. Thomas
